This polygon data layer represents aldermanic wards for Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1896-1901. This data layer was created by staff at the American Geographical Society Library using scans of maps owned by the City of Milwaukee. This is the first version of the shapefiles representing the aldermanic wards and districts. Prior to 1972 aldermanic districts were called aldermanic wards. This detail is reflected in the naming of the files. The dataset was originally published by the American Geographical Society Library in 2020.
